This summer we welcomed 18 talented college students into our internship program. The goal of our program is to provide students with new skills and experiences to prepare them for their future careers.
Our interns came from schools all over the Midwest. Colleges included University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, DePaul University, North Central College, DePauw University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Indiana University, Miami of Ohio, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Iowa, Purdue University, Central Michigan University and Marquette University.
“Overall this internship experience allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and gain leadership skills that I look forward to practicing every day,” said Meru Sharma, Marketing intern.
We were fortunate enough to have returning interns from previous years. Will Thompson, from our Business Solutions department, who was a returning intern; said, “I came back to Republic Bank of Chicago this summer because of the great experience I had last year. Republic Bank puts a lot of work into their internship program and it allows the interns to get great work experience no matter what area of banking or finance you’re interested in, so it was an easy decision to come back.”
Each intern worked for various departments related to their majors at our headquarters in Oak Brook. You could find them working in departments such as Credit, Human Resources, Sponsored Products, MSB, Retail Operations, Deposit Operations, Residential Lending, IT, Finance, Business Solutions, Marketing, Risk, and Legal.
“I discovered an area of business that I am passionate about and I was able to gain some great work experience with the help of my supervisors,” Thompson said.
Over the past three years, we have challenged our interns with a collective project that brings them all together to grow their team building, leadership, and presentation skills as well as work on initiative that encompasses the whole bank.
This year, they created and managed an Instagram account for us. Our presence on Instagram communicated upcoming events, promotions, and showed The Republic Way!
Interns were split into two teams. Each team had to create content, analyze data, and present their findings to managers and our senior team.
In their final presentation, the interns gave an overview of their project, deconstructed data relating to profile engagements, and recommended future strategies to enhance the profile.
We were thrilled to host our 2019 hardworking interns and are looking forward to seeing how successful their futures become because we know they will thrive.
