Republic Bank of Chicago grant helps Hodgkins’ Lenzi Community Learning Center provide much needed opportunities for local grade school students.
Over 100 people attended the Grand Opening of the Lenzi Community Learning Center in Hodgkins on April 4, 2016. The center, operated by LaGrange Elementary District 105, provides a comfortable learning environment for families within the Lenzi Apartment Complex in this primarily Spanish-speaking, immigrant community. Parents and students attending the opening were enthusiastic about the access to technology and the home-like setting that the Center offers.
The Center is intended to encourage and support family involvement in learning. It is equipped with furniture designed for studying and includes 20 computers and 5 iPads with internet access. A staff member is also on-site to provide tutorial and technology guidance.
“We have been involved in the Hodgkins community for a long time. When we heard about the district’s plans for this family-oriented learning environment we immediately pledged our support”, remarked Bill Sperling, Republic Bank Vice Chairman/CEO/President.
The Center is currently open Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 7pm. Expansion to a summer transition program is also being considered.
